IMO Motley Fool talk their own book a lot - i.e. if they're long a stock, they reléase a lot of bullish articles and if they're short a stock, they reléase a lot of bearish artícles.
Sometimes I do what you said though - look at what they're bagging (which is often beat-up) and then consider buying. Nice contrarían indicator haha.
Nice rally today in FLN. I was thinking more about this - they fact they can break even (more-or-less) whilst they do all their modifications/improvements, is actually really good. A lot of Co's could only dream of this.
