In short, the Australian team sports association has decided that it will wait until the (in)famous 'hockey stick' is on the field. The first pre-season game just passed, and the season officially kicks off late December. No fixed date. Following games are spread approx. 3 months apart, allowing for the international teams to participate.
There will be special training matches along the way that are quite random, like the recent one in China that was played on the left field. These are stricktly invites only for spectators, but long standing club members are guaranteed a place, and even given good seats in the grand stand, where they can watch all the action from on high. However, such training sessions are open to the public at a price. The first one or two sessions will only attract occassioanl followers and real diehard sports folk, so they'll get in through the gates too and can buy a reasonable seat location. However, since there are so many international teams in the forthcoming competition, their countryfolk are also expeccted to turn-up, so there could be a mad scramble, especially if any training sessions occur near a quarterly planned game.
But whatever game you decide to watch, make sure you are there in plenty of time before the finals begin, and the grand final is expected to be a real blas.
