Trujillo is the second largest city in Peru and is right on the coast. Very interesting place, my other half grew up there so I have traveled to Peru a few times now and that is where we base ourselves from with her family. Plenty to see and do in the north and a very different feel to Lima. Best way to travel there from Lima is on the Sofa Cama buses, very comfortable and very cheap. Let me know ion you do plan to go I can give you some tips on the region, post covid obviously.
