Mindanao has always been the place to go if you want to disappear, permanently, in peaceful times or otherwise.  Duterte will either make or break that place.  Its his home and its also how he came to presidency, he has a point to prove more than ever now and that also means so does any opposition.

About 2 years ago I played golf with a geologist who was doing work for MML and OGC.  He explained that on Mindanao the rebels etc can potentially walk in at any time they want and just demand royalties for their cause, or just shut the place down.  At the same time he said MML was sitting on gold mine, literally.

Still holding, but only out of hope.
