Would mr.Grant let ORG go for $9?
ConocoPhillips was in APLNG already and as far as I know, they were intending to operate the downstream and LNG sales. Having BG on the boat will potentially having to compete with Conoco on the downstream and LNG sales.
In the end, BG purchased QCLNG with composition of 74% upstream and controlled the downstream (100%). Looking at this, I would imagine BG was looking for full control of APLNG + the retail. Grant wouldn't loose the strategic partnership with a major worldclass oil and gas operator such as Conoco with the exposure of wide market.
All in my opinion.
