Half of the energy requirements of Victoria are served by gas so to switch to electricity will require much more power than we generate now with mostly brown coal, IMO coal and gas will be around for a long time unless there is a major breakthrough in technology that can produce renewable power, the IT, 4 G and data centre use is going to skyrocket and the required power will mean that coal plants will need to subsidised by government to keep the lights on.

The Victorian government might even decide or have to develop the huge gas resource available in the brown coal fields in the LV, despite the Andrews government spending $42 million of taxpayer's money on an inquiry to shut down development of the resource.
