Overall a good result that 'Mr Market' has liked in early trading on Wednesday 23 August 2023.
Return on funds employed and margins have risen.
Sales growth is probably below even in the category of food, and definitely below overall Australian CPI (inflation) but understandable given some households are challenged by rising interest rates affecting mortgage payments.
Looking forward, NZ with its terrible economy under NZ Labour, and Big W where sales are dropping look to be developing 'problem children'.
WOW remains #1 in Australia and #2 in NZ, so no change there. Sure, some shoppers may be changing to Aldi, but latter's put up its prices faster than either WOW or COL. Aldi also to my mind sells some very poor quality products, and a fair bit of its stock is German or other European imports. Its range is extremely poor compared to WOW/MTS' IGAs and COL.
