Islamabad, May 19. (PTI): Pakistan's intelligence agencies have alerted the government about a Uzbek women militant conducting training camps for Pakistani women to become suicide bombers to target top leaders of the country.
Intelligence agencies submitted reports to the Interior Ministry which said a Uzbek woman Aziza, widow of Ubaidullah, an active member of the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, who was killed during military operations in South Waziristan tribal agency in January, was training female suicide bombers at a base in Pakistan's mountains bordering Afghanistan, a local daily said.
She had told her relatives that she intended to avenge her husband's death by committing terrorist acts in Pakistan, the 'Daily Times' quoting officials said.
They said this was perhaps the first time in Pakistan that females were being trained for suicide missions.
Following a tip off about women suicide bombers training camp, Pakistan's intelligence agencies alerted the government that acts of terrorism could occur in major cites and the suicide bombers would target top leaders.
As a follow-up action Pakistan's Ministry of Interior has directed home secretaries of the four provinces, as well as the chief commissioner of Islamabad and provincial police officers, to hunt down Aziza and increase security at sensitive places and for VVIPs in their provinces.
High-ranking officials of the Ministry of Interior have also directed the secretary for security for Federal Administrative Tribal Area (FATA) to launch a vigorous campaign to destroy Aziza's hideouts and training camp, the news report added.
