All very fair points lost, it was not my purpose to criticise models but rather to say they don't always reflect outcomes.
Insofar as the tide is already out and managers should be performing, my experience has been in a sell off, EVERYTHING is sold off, there are few places to hide.
The true test of a good stock picker or fund manager's skill is to hold businesses that can RECOVER from being oversold whilst lesser businesses languish. This part of the bear market cycle normally takes 6 -18 months after which time, one is reasonable clearly able to tell who is naked and who is not.
