Excellent explanation with actual numbers. The fact that portfolio consists of growth stock like MSFT, Google,Amazon which are the biggest companies world has ever seen with billions in the BS including cash and balance 50% in world beating consumer goods related with many decades of existence are obvious down side protection. Why is it difficult to understand just looking at the companies in the portfolio. It is not other funds did better during the crisis recovery period and left Magellan funds behind doesn’t mean it didn’t show down side protection.
