Tesla is a company and on an earnings and industry comparison basis is a joke at current pricing. Let alone with reference to potential future competition.
Bitcoin (which of course isn't a company and shouldn't be compared as such) on the other hand, Hamish simply sounds like an out of touch boomer that doesn't understand what he's looking at. And the reason for that is because quite frankly, he doesn't.
I still own this company (partially because on a value basis the company looks very good) and believe there is potential for future outperformance, but outperformance requires seeing through consensus weighing of an index and ultimately knowing something beyond what the market does. Your understanding and ability to look forward and understand complex, newly arising opportunities is CENTRAL to outperforming consistently.
The way Hamish discusses Bitcoin in my opinion is unhealthy and doesn't show a desire to understand or look forward. Its salty boomer mentality that reflects a desire to approach investments whether it be alternate asset classes or stocks themselves with the same, never changing lens that he has always used. That is a recipe for disaster.
I'm not saying Hamish should buy Bitcoin in a fund or that he should even like it, let alone like the vast majority of cryptoscammery that exists. But to not understand in his position the desire for an asset like Bitcoin as what is functionally digital gold and an anti-inflationary rock unattached to a government regulation and monetary policy is a wilful desire to be ignorant.
