re: Ann: FURTHER EXCELLENT DRILLING RESULTS F...
ocracoke , just a bit of info you and others might find interesting after reading posts from you, P.P. and 2ic. Next Wed 15 April at The Theodore Club , 333 Adelaide St Brisbane. the Geological Society of Australia (Qld) free seminar + (finger food and drinks at the bar) TOPIC: "Australian Proterozoic Mafic-Ultramafic Magmatic Events Map" SPEAKER: Jon Claoue-Long (Geoscience Australia)
I reckon it will be a top night ! Get there before 6pm, a bit of finger food and a couple of VB long-necks then straight up to the 13th floor for Jon's "seminar". Mate, you'll love it !!
"Worldwide, the discovered very large Nickel and Platinum Group Element(PGE)sulphide deposits are strongly concentrated in mafic igneous rocks of Proterozoic age. The rich Proterozoic Ni-PGE endowment of other countries - Canada,Africa,China and Russia - contrasts with the record of discovery in Australia, where only one world-class example has been found so far ( Nebo-Babel )
The deficit of discoveries in Australia, relative to other continents,is unlikely to reflect real geological differ- ences, rather,it points to the difficulty of identifying settings for mineralisations in intrusions that are under cover. This presents a major opportunity for exploration that can use the knowledge gained from other continents to predict which magmatic events and intrusions may be most prospective.
Geoscience Australia has produced a new 'MAP OF AUSTRALIAN PROTEROZOIC MAFIC-ULTRAMAFIC MAGMATIC EVENTS' Nine of 30 newly-defined Magmatic "events" (yeah yeah) are mineralised in Oz and 6 are co-eval with major Ni-Cu + PGE deposits in other continents. There are important correlations of these mineralised systems under SHALLOW COVER and in under-explored provinces. The full extent of the mafic-ultramafic magmatic systems is shown and significant extensions to some igneous provinces are evident".
Then a bit about Qld and a 'prominent' example in the Mount Isa Eastern Creek Volcanics , whose metal depletion implies removal of PGE sulphides in the FEEDER plumbing. The new map highlights coeval PGE-Au-V mineralised intrus- ions as far away as the Arunta and Kimberley regions.
If yous can't make it next Wednesday night to the 'Theo' with Jon and ocracoke (maybe Keith Watkins as well) then best you just 'download it'.
