What is a convertible note Australia?

Under a convertible note,an investor makes a loan to the startup which automatically converts into equity at a trigger event (in practice, the closing of a future equity round). Investors are rewarded for their early investment with a discount to the price per share paid by the equity round investors.

^^The first definition I can see for convertible notes on Dr. Google. Note how it points to 'makes a loan to a startup.' According to your viewpoint, this is a last resort option. So really, it depends on where you are looking at it from.

Again, not saying whether or not WRM may become solvent, just trying to separate fact from opinion.
