After being invited by some to do my own research, after questioning certain numbers about our product, and being advised relevant numbers have been published and to conduct my own due diligence, I went off and tried to do just that. It’s a bloody nightmare.
Many of us are wondering why the tech companies haven’t snapped us up already. Some have assumed they don’t know we exist. Many of us have read some of the technical details about our ‘product’, here on these forums.
What we have:
27ns read and 9ns write abilities at DRAM speed.
Variable and tuneable retention.
Excellent endurance.
Persistent non volatile memory, demonstrated at 60nm on IMEC test beds.
We don’t know retention details. We don’t know if this could potentially be a storage system and retain its data when switched off for months or years. I believe if the retention numbers were significant, it would have been shouted to the moon, mind bogglingly groundbreaking tech.
Even if the retention is just seconds or minutes however, the power savings compared to system ram are phenomenal, and would be an absolute game changer as the AI cloud is hungrily searching for more data centres complete with lots and lots of RAM.
DRAM is a memory technology from the 1970’s and 80’s. It was fast. But replaced by SDRAM and various iterations of DDR-SDRAM in the 90’s, followed by ddr2, ddr3…now DDR6-RAM.
I went searching for equipment still using older DRAM but couldn’t find any. Even the least expensive cellphones seem to use a version of DDR3.
memory speed is NOT usually measured by its latency, ie 9ns. Its latency is arguably its third most important attribute. Memory speed is usually measured by its frequency and bandwidth speeds. An example of current memory speed is DDR5 - 3300mhz, 6600M/T. M/t is MegaTransmissions, instructions. These memory modules come with various “ns’ numbers, indicating its latency. Latency numbers (Ns) have been rising over recent times, a consequence of the continuous increase in frequency (speed). Latency (cas or CL) is, more of less, the delay between transmissions.
So DDR5 can do 6600 M/T per second.
SD-RAM can do 100 MT. Its latency is great, low NS, but it’s one sixty sixth the speed of current memory.
I could not find speed details for the older DRAM.

Micron, who was originally teamed up with us and many consider would be a great fit if WD pass, have a great website for their memory modules, Crucial memory, and explain frequency and bandwidth and ‘ns’ well.
Lots of computer gaming websites get very very geeky into this stuff and have loads of details also. Some of them talk about increasing latency to facilitate higher frequency, as they hot rod their systems to gain even better speeds.
Wikipedia was great.
There is loads of info out there, but it’s hard learning and understanding the jargon.
We have knowledgeable folks here assuring us that all is well.
I believe we don’t actually have one single metric that can be used to calculate what we have. We don’t know it’s potential speeds. We don’t know what type of product it can be used in as we don’t know the retention numbers.
Without these, I imagine buyers would be reluctant, especially once you learn about octane and rambus, - on the wiki pages above. Our sp is an indication that we have some risk or uncertainty.
None of the above is of especial concern if we continue to trust our company. I trust them. I note JD has his stash still in. DM is in. Kel Mcculloch is certainly still in. The narrative that iMec will be used, with NDA’s, to market this to appropriate industry partners resonates well. It makes sense.
But thinking we know details around where this product can be used, while it’s speed and retention are complete unknowns, is folly.
So it comes down to faith, really. I’m buying more today, and selling them at iMec.

Ps. An electrotechnical engineer, or anyone really, can pick my above argument to pieces, massively oversimplified and lots of details missing. But we don’t know our products speed or retention.
