One other thing that seems to have been lost in the noise is that the write accuracy of the reram chip is far better than it is with DRAM - so there is no error checking required. This saves a massive amount of effort when trying to load data onto the memory cell. More than 10% of the bandwidth writing to the memory is utilised in error checking, and then some 12% of the memory size is lost to the code bits for error checking. So your 64Gb memory is actually only 56GB. You don't lose this space with reram.

Add to that the fact that the reram retention capacity is variable, unlike DRAM which is locked at around 60ms. So that means that the chip has to be re-written at least every 60ms to keep the bit on-board ... imagine if retention is 1 second - that means that the chip needs to be re-written some 16 times less often, so it is effectively 16 times faster.

So it is not so much the long term retention that is of interest - the cost of the chip lends itself more to being used in the fast front end of computing (somewhere between DRAM and RAM as a buffer) and not so much in the field device world where Flash currently rules the roost with its long retention capacity.
