IMO 2029 is pushing it, however, filling the tanks with electrolyte is the last task in the construction methodology (i.e. not on critical path).
IMO if FID on the mine is reached end of this year, construction could start mid 2026, mining starting mid 2027. It would take 6 months to mine 5000t (end of 2028).
Then we would need a massive electrolyte facility to get the electrolyte done within 12 months. This would support a facility in Kalgoorlie which is something WA Labor have discussed with industry.
In terms of Lumina being different to other models, there currently isn't an off-the-shelf VFB BESS solution in Australia, Adding to this, they keyword is 'turnkey' so that the whole process from design/procurement through to construction is completed by AVL. AVL need to complete Project Lumina to match the level-of-detail that Lithium BESS suppliers have completed.
AVL are a first mover. There will be fast followers but we are in pole position.
I would implore people to watch the Future Facing Commodities presentation which shows that VFB BESS systems are the next big thing, and it should answer a lot of questions regarding Lumina.
HC is usually a good place for sharing thoughts/information etc. but this thread recently has gotten a bit emotional and based on opinion (maybe Kalgoorlie with be US vanadium) rather than fact (WA funding is contingent on the vanadium being from WA).
