EPS is based on the number of shares and earnings so if for example, you issue extra scrip (shares) at the end of June, your EPS would have been artificially diluted as the numerator (Total shares on issue) is based on the amount of shares as at 30th June where as the denominator (earnings) is based on a time range being the financial year.
