We, the shareholders of the companies in the share register, are not the clients..the companies are. So maybe the reference to the platforms is with regards to the interface for the companies and other backend stuff.
I find both easy to use, and since I only use the investor centre when I have a new holding...the issue with bulk updates only happens once in a while..e.g. moving address.
In any case, the companies in the register seems to be bigger companies than those at LNK (except maybe TLS) and are sticky.

I used to work for Link but do not hold LNK but held CPU when it was only about $10 (LNK was not yet in IPO and the company I worked for was acquired by LNK). Back then, was looking for exposure to two things: rising US dollar and rising interest rates when rates were at all time low. Now SP at almost $16, so 60% increase in 3 years, not including reinvested dividends. CPU is now more than half of my portfolio that I would soon have to rebalance...but not just yet.
In any case, I would not compare CPU and LNK as a whole, unless you only compare the share registry business.
