Whilst I don't know if that's true or not, I think it is wise for one to be very wary of Analyst recommendations, in general.
I'm not disputing that they're smart people who know their Craft well and hence how to arrive at a reasonable price target for a Stock - but I am very wary of their agendas.
My personal opinion is that they're always one step ahead of their public announcements - eg. short a stock and then announce a downgrade a few days later. After it's fallen, take a long position and then announce an upgrade a few days later.
And then you have the example that you quote - an Analyst House that's been slighted, so now they're trying to beat the stock up. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some truth to it.
We, the uninformed individual shareholders, will never know the full truth. But FWIW, I do not place much value in any Analyst announcements.
As for CAT - it's starting to look interesting.....
