Killa. The risk isnt whether they get the money, its the risk of chargeback 9which can happen due to a number of reasons). Its regardless for this risk whether its debit or credit card. Im not for a minute saying jetstar is not a safe company, im just highlighting that the acquiring bank will assess this risk and secure it appropriately. The risk (ie, amount of potential total loss - highly unlikely) is usually the risk number taken. The acquiring bank (or license holder) will then need to determine what security they want from APT against that risk. To put it into perspective, its unlikly in my earlier $1m dollar mortgage scenario that the bank wouldnt get some money back if I decided not to pay up or went bust. But the bank still records the potential risk (exposure) as $1m and then takes appropriate (ie, the house) against that risk.
