Taking an EPS figure at face value, without full regard for the determinants of that EPS figure is, I think, a risky proposition during the normal course of events, but it is inordinately more the case when that EPS figure is the inaugural one following a major merger such as the one that has occurred here.
Under a less conservative set of financial managers and auditors, the normalised EPS number could easily have been reported as 50cps.
