Why is paying for what you use old school? Nearmap has the functionality to search by address (there is no need to pan around) and you only pay as you move around if you are on the aerial imagery function, if you switch to google maps view (roadmap) you do not accrue any data usage. Sounds like your friend needs to learn how to use the product properly.
