@awichiu, On Friday 17 July you asked me on Hot Copper "do you also have any information of how the USCOM BP plus is superior to the normal digital sphygmomanometer? And also price comparison?" I did say I would reply but not until this week - so here goes ...Firstly the two devices are TOTALLY different as exemplified by the price. I have a great little Wrist Band digital sphygmomanometer that I purchased on eBay for AUD 10.00 and it is remarkably accurate for what it does and what it cost. More up market versions of this device usually use an upper arm cuff and cost $100+. A conventional sphygmomanometer estimates just 3 things: systolic and diastolic blood pressure at the location of the cuff and the pulse count in beats per minute.
THE USCOM BP+ DEVICE delivers a much more comprehensive and accurate reading of heart performance, using patent protected suprasystolic oscillometry at the heart rather than normal subsystolic BP at the upper arm.
So the two devices are quite different - a conventional sphygmomanometer is similar to a red warning light - it signals malfunctions. The USCOM BP+ provides the measurements that help identify the cause so you can fix it.
The USCOM BP+ is a blood pressure monitor PLUS a cardiovascular function and pulse pressure wave analysis device. It delivers 25 measures of heart function, at the heart, and 5 pulse pressure waveforms.
Uscom BP+ captures high resolution waveforms in a manner that specifically preserves the high frequency information in the pulse pressure traces. The suprasystolic occlusion removes noise from turbulent flow in partial cuff occlusion and the mirid downstream reflections and other physiological influences. This all results in improved detail in the measured waveforms that deliver better, clinically actionable, reports.
The BP+ has digital connectivity for archiving, analysis, and remote digital reporting using the BP+ Reporter.
The Uscom BP+ device was priced around USD 2,500 last year. There is a new model soon to be released (price unknown) Competitors devices are generally much more expensive - range USD 3,200 - 14,000.![]()
