Rolling is the easy part and if the PK mills don’t roll the required size then it can be rolled at a bigger mill.
Casting the 300mm is somewhat more difficult and much slower cast speeds around .8m/min are required which can often see the ladle go cold before it’s actually cast. The required grades are expensive to make but converting the casting machine itself from 230mm to 300mm simply means dropping in a 300mm mould and realigning the machine which can be done in a few hours so setting up to cast 300mm for a longer sequence would be cost effective.
This sub deal requires a certain amount of plate that Port Kembla could cast quite easily and they need the contracts down there at PK.
