Key Points:

• $200 to buy the new box
• Will still have to pay $15/mont rental fee if you want to be able to record shows
• 'Long time' existing MYSKY subs will get some kind of special deal (free box?). But most of them probably won't want to switch anyway as they are used to MYSKY and like the reliability for live sport in particular.

Sky are stressing their 'limited supply' by Christmas, but I don't think they have anything to worry about. Demand will be so low they need not fear running out of boxes!

Just a shambles, and poor decision making that I have come to expect from Sophie and the team.

I remember chatting to John Fellet a few months back, and I was picking his brain on the Cisco IV platform he was working on (the box that Martin Stewart cancelled, costing us $40M in development costs...only for Sky to do a 180 a few months later on the need for a new box).

Anyway, he said the plan at that time was to offer customers the new box for a one off fee (no ongoing rental fee for the new box). Existing subs who preferred to stick with MYSKY could do so and would no longer be charged the renal fee.

A very good plan that would have had good uptake I think, while also 'rewarding' customers who choose to keep the existing tech with lower fees.

But Sophie is doing the exact opposite approach, and her approach will not be popular with consumers.
