Mate,
This is a technology company and product development is always ongoing. Otherwise your patents become obsolete and so does your product. But more importantly their products have multiple applications and also need to cater for those. Going from supplying the tech only to finished product for customers is a job that both work together.
I will worried if they stopped R&D, not the other way around.
