I have a friend who needs a hip replacement. He will have it at Cabrini in Malvern, Victoria but cannot yet obtain a date, although it will be after the end of March. This is due to Dictator Dan cancelling elective surgery until this week, so private hospitals have a huge backlog with a finite number of operating theatres. Another friend had a far more severe illness that so far has meant two operations at the same major Catholic hospital. He had to share a room about three weeks ago as Cabrini had closed some (many?) wards due to the ban on elective surgery. Eventually, this will see an increased number of deaths probably somewhat in advance of what would have been expected,. given patients were unable to be operated on or even see their surgeons. Yet another example in Australia of the 'cure' being worse than the 'disease', although it's likely to be beneficial to IVC (I don't hold) and PFP (I recently acquired).
