Watch this guys to understand how sink hole is formed when brine was removed from the salt crust below surface. I don't suggest it could be the case with pumping out brine, sun dry to produce lithium hydroxide would eventually cause this issue BUT? Something got to replace the volume of brine that was pumped out. If not brine then could be fresh water from rain (little over there in South America though) or from under ground water that some how connected with. The fresh water will disolve the salt crust over time and would form the empty space underneath. I think they would have studied this in SA mining, will do some reading to understand their situation.
