Upticking is when a non commercial transaction occurs to push the price up. Downticking is the opposite. Just a really crude way to manipulate the market, allowed under the guise of "adding liquidity".
Its an utter sham. If you google upticking or down ticking, there was a submission the the Australian Senate on market manipulation years ago. Obviously the Australian government does not care one iota about actual price discovery and proper functioning markets.
To avoid this bs and not get ripped off, just buy good stocks for the long term. Its the day traders that cop this little tax.
