The futures are not so weak at the moment, they are up again overnight, steadily rising each month till the end of the year and beyond.
We have been through the really low prices $120ish, now almost $160usd.
The point many people miss, that if let's say your costs are $100, and you are only getting $120 for the coal you sell, you make $20.
when the price increases to $140, or even $160, your profit then is doubled, or tripled to $40 and $60 respectively. Small increases make a big difference to the bottom line. You don't need coal price to double, to double your profit.
