The thing I didn't like coles' presentation was they had so many useless pages on sustainability and fancy names for their internal strategy, Simpler better something? Already forgot. Probably hired some external consultancy group to come run workshops for high and middle management in a room, coming up with useless powerpoint and reports, blah.... when ppl are meeting, they aren't producing.

Things you can improve, have auto redemption for your fly buy points to dollar, and on checkout prompt user if they want to use the dollar amount on their flybuy. Second, in your app, have someway to store your coles gift card digitally, or even better, let ppl add them to their digital wallet on their phone. Thirdly, and maybe you can already do this but just not as 'easy' as woolies, have your fuel docket saved against the barcode in your app, and you can scan it without needing to have a physical receipt. These are all easy wins that would get you more loyalty to your brand.

With training staff against shoplifting, the 19 yo kid standing at the self checkout isn't paid enough to care, they already got enough to worry about with items not scanning or system freezing etc. You would hope by employing 1 staff for 10 checkout machines instead of 6 staff to man each checkout, the amount of money u save from the wage would cover the loss in theft. It shouldn't be that big of a deal that is materially impacting your bottom line.
