My confidence that the mining code will be passed into law, and there will be a semblance of legitimacy around the mining code comes from the fact that the government was well and truly caught with it's hand in the cookie jar when the former chief of stuff was caught in a corruption racket in the UK.

Add to this, the EU, who have invested and donated a lot of money to the country / government have also been rather vocal and visible recently with multiple articles calling for Electoral reform - https://www.lexpress.mg/2024/02/recommandations-electorales-leurope.html

I'd say the EU would have tolerated some corruption, so long as Rajoelina and his cronies would have followed rule #1 of Corruption Club - which is "don't get caught".

I think the Ambassador in town AND being so vocal are a shot across the bow of the government to stay on best behaviour, and letting a few "long delayed projects" start up with the full power of the mining code, and with minimal "distraction".

Rajoelina (thankfully) made his bed when he chose to take money from the world bank and EU, and he's well aware there are conditions involved.

I believe the mining code will become law by the end of March, let's see how I've just jinxed myself.
