I haven’t watched the webcast, but I imagine they are talking about putting BTM over complex wounds that can’t be covered with a skin graft alone (ie tendons or bone exposed, an underlying fracture or metalwork on view) but require more substantial surgery with tissue transfer such as a free flap. BTM could be placed early in the admission to cover the wound with definitive surgery done at a later date when the patient is recovering with the wound decontaminated, and is stable and no longer requiring substantial organ support. Definitive surgery often isn’t possible early in these patients as they can have other significant injuries which result in shock and reduce the likelihood of successful tissue transfer.
