I think the idea of MYR owning clothing brands is terrible unless they ditch the department stores, and focus on brands.

There is one brand they need to focus on Myer. And that is a whole universe to manage. They should ensure the clothing brands are owned by others who sweat over them. Then MYR every year can pick and choose what will make their customers happy, and provide space for the best brand partners, and even champion some newcomers in exchange for equity etc.

Also MYR should be a destination - and they are looking at running lots of different little shops?

This strategy screams insanity IMO!

My strategy - FWIW - would be to make MYR stores far bigger and better, and close most of them. The MYR loyalty is a good idea - but it is not astounding - has been going for quite a few years. it is not a foundation for running little stores and poorly managed brands. Far better is if Myer has things people can get nowhere else, that people want, and very well trained staff. They cannot compete with on-line businesses. But these days guaranteeing authenticity is a big winner. So many things I will pay up for to know it is genuine. (Especially things that go on skin, in stomach, or that contact food). There are lots of possibilities when a business focuses!
