While a lot of retailers struggle to develop new concepts, Universal Stores has developed a rather low risk strategy to do it :
- Perfect Strangers was one of Universal's private brands sold in its Universal Stores, it was so successful that Universal decided to test the concept of stores focused on Perfect Strangers brand,
- Thrills brand was the highest selling 3rd party brand sold in Universal stores for over 5 years.
Universal Store decided to buy CTC (trading at Thrills) in Sept 22 for 50 m$ (including differed payment) which represented 6.8 x underlying EBIT 22.
