If like most mining operations it's a 24/7 job... however for maintenance they do it in sections.
As an example... with Argyle when they did it on the primary or secondary crusher there would be enough in the stockpile to keep everything else downstream going while they were shut down. Likewise the stockpile from the crush rollers was enough to feed the next process down while the crush rollers were under maintenance. Trucks also had strict schedules and were done one at a time regularly to make sure several never broke down at the same time disrupting output.
I actually wrote the initial program for them in 1999 that kept track of maintenance and stockpiles. Only took 3 weeks from a 3 month contract so they got me doing other interesting stuff instead of leaving early. I was offered a trip to the site but turned it down
