Re your comment on the "era". imo historians will describe the current era as the "Age of Ignorance". And tragically, this cosy situation suits most people.

I enjoyed a rigorous Science education at a college of London University that closed its Science faculty some years ago because "prospective students found science too hard" preferring courses on commerce, law, accounting etc.

Without a critical mass of people in society with sufficient intellect and education to understand the questions that confront us what hope is there of finding the answers!

And as for politicians - we are doomed. Their backgrounds are totally unsuited to running a country.
