AIR 20/09/2013 12:31 GENERAL REL: 1231 HRS Air New Zealand Limited (NS) GENERAL: AIR: Air NZ welcomes reauthorisation of trans-Tasman alliance Air New Zealand welcomes the decision today by the Minister of Transport Hon Gerry Brownlee to extend authorisation of the trans-Tasman alliance between Air New Zealand and Virgin Australia until 31 October 2018. Air New Zealand Chief Strategy, Networks and Alliances Officer Stephen Jones says the alliance has already delivered significant benefits to passengers, including lower fares on the Tasman routes over the past three years. "The reauthorisation will enable us to continue to further improve the trans-Tasman customer experience, as we realise even greater efficiencies, opportunities and cost savings." In reauthorising the alliance, the Minister has not sought to impose any additional conditions, effectively supporting the conditions specified in the approval recently granted by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. The trans-Tasman alliance, which has operated since July 2011, offers customers a comprehensive trans-Tasman network connecting 35 destinations in Australia to 26 destinations in New Zealand.
