GENERAL: MCK: MCK: Christchurch Update
Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Limited (NZX:MCK) welcomes the
release of the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan which was released earlier
this week.
"Christchurch is not only important to the South Island, but to New Zealand
as a whole. Besides serving as a gateway to tourism, it has always been an
important hub in terms of commerce, agriculture and tertiary education for
Canterbury and for New Zealand and we are looking forward to re-establishing
Millennium & Copthorne's continued presence in the Garden City", said MCK's
Managing Director Mr. B K Chiu.
Mr. Chiu said that work has already begun on repairs to the 178-room, 5-star
Millennium Hotel Christchurch, situated near the proposed new Convention
Centre.
He also noted that the proposed Performing Arts Precinct would be built on
and around the area currently occupied by the Copthorne Hotel Christchurch
Central and other buildings.
"The two proposed hotel sites adjacent to the proposed Convention Centre are
of interest to Millennium & Copthorne. We will be working with CERA as they
commence the rebuild of the Christchurch CBD in earnest", he said.
