GENERAL: MCK: Update: Copthorne Hotel Christchurch Central Building
Since the incident on 28 September 2013, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New
Zealand Limited (MCK:NZX) has been working with the authorities in relation
to their investigations and to provide assistance with a new demolition plan
to safely demolish what remains of the Copthorne Hotel Christchurch Central.
MCK's Senior Management travelled to Christchurch on Monday 30 September to
meet with CERA and the various consultants engaged on the new demolition plan
and has been in contact with CERA representatives each day during this week.
On Wednesday 2 October, MCK received a demolition notice pursuant to section
38(4) of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011 from the Canterbury
Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA). MCK, through its insurers ACE
Insurance New Zealand and consultants, have formulated a response to the
notice and has submitted that response to CERA earlier today. Once the new
demolition plan has been approved, it is expected that work can resume and be
completed on the site.
A further update will be provided once the new demolition plan has been
approved and works have commenced.
MCK wishes to clarify that the demolition works on the site have been managed
and undertaken by Southern Demolition & Salvage Limited. Southern Demolition
& Salvage Limited have had custody of the hotel site since the commencement
of the demolition works.
