GENERAL: MEL: Meridian Energy Limited adopts Foreign Exempt ASX Listing

Meridian can confirm that the ASX has approved a change in its ASX admission
category from an ASX Listing to an ASX Foreign Exempt Listing, effective from
Thursday 29 October 2015.

The ASX Foreign Exempt Listing category is based on a principal of
substituted compliance, recognising that for secondary listings, the primary
regulatory role and oversight rest with the home exchange.

Meridian will continue to have a full listing on the NZX Main Board and
Meridian shares will continue to be listed on the ASX.
