SUM 26/10/2012 16:16 GENERAL REL: 1616 HRS Summerset Group Holdings Limited GENERAL: SUM: Summerset arrives in the Bay of Plenty SUMMERSET ARRIVES IN THE BAY OF PLENTY Summerset has announced an $80 million retirement village for the Bay of Plenty town of Katikati. This will be the nationwide retirement village developer and operator's 16th retirement village, and its first village in the Bay of Plenty - one of the country's most popular retirement destinations. Construction on the first stage of development will begin before the end of the year. The company aims to have the first residents in their homes in the second half of 2013. Summerset intends to develop a full retirement village with approximately 200 homes on the 7ha, waterfront site. This will include a care centre with rest home and hospital level care. The village will include recreation facilities such as an outdoor bowling green, croquet lawn, communal vegetable garden, hair dressing salon, resident bar, and cafe. Summerset CEO Norah Barlow said Summerset was looking forward to bringing its product to the Bay of Plenty. "Summerset is one of the largest and fastest growing retirement village operators in the country, it is time we had a village in the Bay of Plenty. "This site will be a very good debut for us. It's beautiful and sits right on the water. It's also very close to the township, clubs and recreation. It will provide a wonderful lifestyle I am sure our residents will love." Summerset is currently developing villages in Dunedin, Nelson, Warkworth, Hamilton and Hastings. It has 10 other completed villages, predominantly in the lower North Island. Mrs Barlow said the company is looking forward to developing in Katikati. "Katikati reminds me of many of the other towns where we have thriving Summerset villages. It has a really good feeling about it and offers an escape from the rat race while being just two hours from Auckland and 20 minutes from Tauranga."
