SUMMERSET NAMED BEST IN AUSTRALASIA FOURTH YEAR RUNNING

Summerset has been recognised as the best retirement village operator in
Australasia for the fourth year in a row.

Almost 80 retirement village operators across Australia and New Zealand were
judged for the award. Between them they operate more than 1200 retirement
    villages.

Summerset's Chief Financial Officer and CEO-designate Julian Cook, received
the honour at the 15th Australasian Over 50s Housing Awards in Melbourne on
    Friday 9 November.

Summerset was established on the Kapiti Coast in 1997. It now has 17
retirement villages from Warkworth to Dunedin.

The awards celebrate excellence in senior housing and retirement villages, a
sector that has shown strong growth across Australasia.

Mr Cook said the award is the result of Summerset's striving to be innovative
in a competitive sector. "We're working all the time to be more creative and
provide more of what our customers tell us they want. We're always listening
to our residents and prospective residents to develop villages they fall in
love with and are proud to live in."

Summerset CEO Norah Barlow said, "To receive this award for the fourth
consecutive year is just phenomenal. It's down to the hard work of our 500
staff, many who work behind the scenes, and put their respect for our
    residents into everything they do.

"We want to be the best in the business. Winning this award is a lovely
acknowledgment, but really what tells me we are achieving is that more than
2,200 New Zealanders have chosen to make Summerset home."

Speaking from Melbourne, award convenor Ann Richards said Summerset clearly
stood out from the retirement village operators across Australasia that were
    reviewed in 2013.

"Summerset is the outstanding performer in the Retirement Village and Care
    sector in Australasia.

"Whilst building its business it has maintained its high levels of care and a
clear focus on being the best they can for their residents, this focus has
been unwavering despite their commercial success.

"Its encouragement of innovation; its resident feedback procedures, its
embracing of the continuous education of staff and its gender balance in its
senior ranks have coalesced to produce a culture unique to the sector."

This award comes during a busy few weeks for Summerset, who received the
green light to build a NZ$120 million waterfront retirement village in
Hobsonville, Auckland, and started work on a NZ$70 million retirement village
    in Karaka, Auckland.
