Kiwi developed Cloud-Connected Energy Management solution finalist in NZ
Innovators Awards
Auckland, 22 September 2014 - A new kind of management system for
point-of-sale refrigerators developed in New Zealand, that connects a
refrigerator to the cloud and significantly reduces energy costs, has been
selected as a finalist in two categories for this year's NZ Innovators Award.
Confirming that Wellington Drive Technologies' (NZX: WDT) SCS Connect system
management device is a finalist in the awards, Greg Allen, the company's
Chief Executive, said; 'We believe the solution will be a game changer for
the industry. Our team has invented a new category of Fleet Management
Device, which enables customers to connect, monitor and manage their
point-of-sale cooling equipment and improve the operational and sales
performance of that equipment."
Dave Howell, Wellington CTO commented; "The SCS Connect will connect
commercial cooling equipment to the cloud in a cost effective way, providing
useful information for companies to better manage their fleets of coolers.
This is a prime example of the Industrial Internet becoming a reality.
Attempts to develop these types of solutions have been explored in the past,
but no one has been able come up with a cost-effective technique."
The SCS Connect solution consists of an energy-saving refrigeration
controller with geo-tagging compatibility and a unique networking solution.
It is mounted in a cooler and can be accessed by a range of mobile
applications for system performance reporting, maintenance management and for
advising equipment owners of any issues with their refrigeration solution.
"Traditionally we have been solely focused only on selling energy efficient
motors" says Mr Allen, "Customers were asking us to help them improve the way
their entire cooling solution performed and we realised our refrigeration
knowledge meant we could add value beyond our motor offering. Plus we think
business data management platforms are just essential in todays competitive
world - it's pretty cool that we are able to innovate and help customers in
this area."
The NZ Innovation Awards will be held on 15 October 2014 in Auckland. The
SCS Connect system is in both the 'Innovation in Sustainability & Clean-tech'
and 'Innovation in Information Communications Technology & Cloud Solutions'
awards categories.
