Agree totally, the West was always going to have play catch-up to China but, despite its seemingly slow progress, IMO, the West is making in-roads. Not only that, China is now experiencing supplies issues with the ceasing of BAM production at one of their major manufacturers. They cannot get enough graphite either. But the red tape here is our biggest issue.

The comparison you have here re. BHP/tianqi and numerous others is mute in my mind. They mine locally and at a scale to make it very economic. Shipping a refined product of that scale is the only way to do it. The output of a years worth of BAM can fit comfortably on one ship. There is no comparison.
