Not sure about 'insiders' knowing the facts long ago...
A few people here (inlcuding myself) flagged the technical risks back when this was trading up near $1, including quoting third party papers/literature... a bit of research and anyone should have been able to see how challenged this basin is to develop. Too much water and coals connected to sandstone acquifers. OF course it is possible to make it work but will be questionable economics and scale. Look at how long and how many wells they have had to drill so far and still cant manage to de-water the small pilot area.
If the basin/acreage was attractive then Santos, APLNG, Shell, etc. would have picked it up long ago to feed their LNG plants.
