You can use thorium to make uranium. When U supplies are lacking, especially when only 55% of the worlds demand is available, then other alternatives will be desired - hence the opening of the thorium bull market later in 2010.
Thorium quite abundant as well, but more in monozite (granite) rock compounds, as opposed to calcrete [which is hakskeen site].
Beware of the media.
When you conduct radiometric readings, you'll be picking up 3 main minerals: Thorium, Potassium and Uranium. Uranium is always the smaller amount in the composite.
