Australian Associated Press reports that global mining giant BHP Billiton has not ruled out further acquisitions in the wake of unveiling Australia's largest ever annual net profit last week. The firm, which acquired uranium miner WMC Resources for US$7.3 billion during the year, recorded a US$6.51 billion net profit in 2004/05. BHP Billiton chief executive officer Chip Goodyear said the firm will look at its project pipeline, further exploration and acquisitions, to grow the firm but would not focus on any one strategy. He said there would probably be no legal problems with the firm "hypothetically" taking over another mining giant such as Rio Tinto but it had not spent much time considering it. more...
