I look at the update of this chart every month. The deficit is supposed to be lower this year ie $1.4 tr compared to 2023 of $1.7tr. But at the end of March it is very close to 2023 and timing differences reduced the deficit by about $70b. Being already $1.1tr it seems the $1.4tr budget is very unlikely to be met.
What makes the comparison worse is that the 2023 deficit would have been $2tr but for issues around studIent loans which reduced the deficit - my best guess is 2024 budget deficit will approach $2tr.
If the USA enters even a mild recession the deficit is set to worsen.
All this is not good news which may be goo$ for POG.
