Seems some folks have lost sight of the scale of this deposit in the current reaction to the SS. The SS has flagged that there are still problems getting the metallurgy right for a decent nickel recovery, but the rest seems ok if that recovery can be doubled, regardless of metal prices in the future. They have plenty of cash in the bank to do a pile of extension and discovery drilling over what really is early days with this, and on a system that initially at least looks like a monster. A mob to the north has just announced a big increase in their low-grade copper recovery using bio-leaching developed by CSIRO so maybe the same folks can help explore approaches for nickel recovery in the waste pile using a similar approach? Luckily they are really cashed up so it could be a year before they need to go to market, because to me the biggest risk to mid-price holders is a forced placement at bottom prices with all the dilution that brings. In the meantime, as Dradam suggests, there is time for a lot more good news on extensions, grades, underground and hopefully metallurgy to come. Maybe an announcement on a JV partner, but that is unlikely to come from a local given the relative lack of experience in complex polymetallic systems containing PGEs and the complexity of processes needed to recover one of these without stuffing up the pathway to recover the rest. But there are certainly folks out there who could be up to that challenge. Especially as the resource continues to grow.
